Design process (Week 10)

For our final project, we are planning to do up a 3D model of the car skytrain. We will be using cardboards and paints it. This 'MRT' have 4 lanes inside it.
2 for cars and 2 for motors, it can contain about 5-6 cars on each lane and 7-8 motors on each lane  depending on the vehicle size.

Design process (Week 9)

We decided on an idea.It is something like a MRT,LRT and the skytrain that can be found on the railway and roads. This idea will allows the cabin to contain cars which will transport them from point A to point B. While this so called 'MRT' of cars,is moving the car underneath it can also move. Its something like a MRT that is made higher above ground. So car can move under it. Sukkit came up with 2 design of it.

Design process (Week 8)

Our group members are to come out with 3 ideas each, about how to solve traffic jam.

1 idea: Make the highways into escalator.
Similar to the skytrain that can be found in Changi airport. Its Driverless so that is no need for driver to drive it. Hence, less accident will occurs, so traffic jam can be reduce.

2 idea: Make a something like a tube that have escalator inside from Point A to Point B. For example, from Orchard to Bugis. The car will be transport up to tube by and escalator, this will reduce traffic jam as the driver does not need to drive. This idea is quite similar to the previous idea.

Design process (Week 7)

I did some site investigation in regards to traffic jam.I took a bus from somerset to Tampines during the peak hour. From what i observed, many people are just pushing around each another just the take the bus and traffic was slow going.i feel that it was due to impatient drivers who constantly changing lane which cause the jam.I also did some investigation on the causeway.I was driving to Johor Bahru Malaysia. There was a long stretch of cars queuing up to enter Johor. Personally it was very annoying and tiring to get stuck in a traffic jam.The effect of traffic jams

-Losses of time, due to the low speed.

-Wastage of energy

-Increasing air pollution, because at low speeds higher energy consumption, and the engine is not operating at optimal conditions .

-Increasing stress road users .

-Interfere with the smooth running of emergency vehicles such as ambulances , fire department in carrying out their duties .

The government should decrease the traffic jams by:
- Increasing the capacity of the road.
One step reduces road congestion is to increase road capacity, for example: to widen the road, add a traffic lane if possible, reduce conflict at the junction turn right to limit the current.

- Alignments to public transport
To increase the carrying capacity of the road network by optimizing the efficient transport in the use of road space. For example: the development of a network of public transport services, the development of special bus lanes, such as the bus way in Jakarta,

-Restrictions on private vehicles

This policy is not popular, but if congestion is getting worse, the traffic management should be more extreme as follows:

1)Restrictions on the use of private vehicles towards a certain area will be limited traffic, another form is the application of high parking rates in the region, and the system is managed in Singapore, London and Stockholm.

2) Restrictions on ownership of private vehicles through increased cost of ownership, fuel tax, motor vehicle tax, high import duties.
3) Restriction of certain traffic entering the area or specific way with applying the 3 in 1, or any other form of motorcycle entering the toll restriction, restrictions on private cars entering the bus way lane.

Design Process (week 6)

Case study

My group and i did survey and interview people in regards to traffic jam in Singapore. We did up eight survey questions to ask the public. We let survey on for a week and collate the result. From the result we found that almost 50% for the people who took the survey took the bus as a transport to work and school. Most of them took the bus as its affordable.During traffic most of them gets bored and annoyed. But some just go with the flow and enjoy the time they have by listening to music and sleeping. Some people try to set of early to not get caught up by traffic. We also did some interview with the people who gets affected by the traffic jam.I met up with Mr yap,46 years old taxi driver.he told me that everyday he always get caught up by the traffic jam.he always feel very annoyed and tired due to the long waiting period. He also said that his passengers also get frustrated as they can't get their destination on time.He also have pump petrol frequently and causing him a lot of money due to the traffic jam.Usual timing and place are during peak and rush hour and CBD area.

Design process (Week 5)

As a young boy i was always fascinate with cars, particularly modified cars. In Singapore car culture is one of the culture where they showcase their work of arts with their rides. understandable that Singapore is so strict on controlling the cars on the road. After all, there’s only 277 square miles to this country, yet it’s home to 5.5 million people. Quite simply, there just isn’t enough room to play with cars here.Plus the price of cars in are really high compare to other country where price of cars are much cheaper and reasonable. And in Singapore you only can use the car on the road for 10 years, unless you’re willing to pay an exorbitant amount to keep it for another decade due to COE.But even with the high price and COE some car lovers are keen in make their car look good. They even created groups such as aftermarket and blacklisted. This groups creates identity of the car culture in Singapore.LTA(land transport authorities) are the uncharged of the car culture in Singapore where they catch illegal modified car which affect the the car culture in Singapore.but with this I'm really fascinate with how passionate are this people with their rides.

Design process (Week 4)

For todays lesson our group research on the thing that cause Traffic Jam and the measure taken by the goverment to reduce the rate of Traffic Jam.

Some of the causes that cause traffic jam to occur are Tree trunk in the street,Flooding,Student Crossing,Parade,Animal Crossing,Tourist,Bad weather,Rough/Uneven Road,Road Inspection
and Roadworks.
The timing that traffic jam occur is mostly during rush and peach hours and also during festive and public holidays.

Measure Taken:COE,ERP,Public Transport,Increase Causeway toll,MAS loan Crub
and Traffic Police
Design process (Week 3)

Today we have to find 3 sources and reference on traffic jam,
this are some of it.

Design process (Week 2)

On the 2nd lesson we went through more on empathising,we gotten more information on what is empathising and how can we use it in our life through videos that our lectures showed us.We also went into our topic as a group and did some research about it.We found out the measures the government took the decrease the rate traffic jam and also brainstorm some solution to help to decrease the rate of traffic jam.Such solution are promoting public transport than private transport and creating posters and awareness to road uses to be patience and considerate.

Design Process -Empathising (Week 1)

The 1st lesson of design process,we sat down and the lecturers introduce us to the module guide and design process. After the introduction we were assign to do a group project base on the topics that was listed out.Me and my group members,Sukkit and Giovani chose the topic 'Traffic Jam' as our main topic.Firstly we did a mind map on the topic and list out some of the factors. After the mind map we went into research, we spilt our research questions and started to research.I had to research about traffic congestion or jams in Singapore. From my research i found out where, how, why, when and even who occur the traffic jam.As some may know that traffic jam are cause by accidents, broken down vehicles, road blocks, reckless driver and road works. From my research i found out another reason to the cause of traffic jams.As you know Singapore is a small island, but the vehicle population in Singapore is very high.In Singapore many households a owns vehicles and travel with it everyday which causes congestion. Most traffic jam occurs during peak and rush hour. From this research i felt the use of puplic transport is much better than using your vehicles.
